I am stupidly happy with this cake (the crappy piping and folding of the marzipan aside). It’s my first attempt at a Great British Bake Off Technical Challenge! And it was a lot easier than I thought – even though mine has ended up a lot lumpier (and, no matter how many times I try, I can’t fold icing – or, in this case, marzipan – on a cake without it folding at the bottom.
But I don’t care because look at my marzipan rose!! I haven’t made an icing rose (or, again, in this case, marzipan) before and I’m so happy with how it turned out! And it tasted amazing!! Admittedly, the custard didn’t have a strong flavour, but I’d managed to roll the marzipan thin enough that it didn’t overpower the taste 😀
The cake didn’t fall apart when I cut it (although it threatened to collapse in the middle!). The inside looks like a cream explosion but it tasted good, so I’m happy 🙂
I’m definitely going to make this cake again and perfect my icing rolling skills (or it’ll just end up covered in roses 😀 )
